Planning and Assessment

Teachers plan the work of the school yearly, weekly and daily. This planning is detailed and is based on children's different needs. Teachers are constantly assessing as they ask questions in lessons and look at work in progress. We value this style of assessment during lessons and in marking work as it supports the next steps in children's learning.

We also value assessments where the children are tested against national standards. At the ages of 7 and 11 the children do Standard Assessment Tests (SATs) during the summer term of Years 2 and Year 6. The results show their level of attainment in English, Mathematics and Science as set against national standards.

As well as the SATs at age 7 and 11, we assess termly using APP in term 1 and 2 and we use optional SATs tests at the end of Years 3, 4 and 5. These results enable us to set individual targets for each child for the following year and to ensure appropriate progression throughout Key Stage 2.

This year we are working with the other Academy Trust school to devise a revised assessment system.

You will be invited to meet your child’s class teacher to discuss progress and future targets on a regular basis.
